A blog documenting the second year of my FdA Fashion course at The Arts Institute at Bournemouth in which I chose to focus on the promotional aspect of the fashion industry.

Our first Friday with Anya.

Today we met our new tutor Anya who is covering all sorts of different subjects relating to fashion promotion that will help us within this unit.

I found it very interesting to hear all about her previous jobs and her own take on the fashion industry (I find everybody's is slightly different but equally interesting!). She talked with us about trends on the high street and showed us industry trend books and sheets which helped when considering our trendbook layouts and presentation as well as the kind of imagery we can use.

In the afternoon we got the chance to go into the high street stores themsleves and see how the trend books relate to what’s actually on the shelf. It was very interesting to see the difference in the initial trendbook and the reality in store. We also studied the layouts and presentation of the shops and where the clothes are made etc.

Summer Projects...

Today's lesson was half a day with Sarah Charles to show our summer projects on 'Drapery'. I really enjoyed seeing how everyone had interpreted the brief and it was extremely helpful to hear Sarah’s opinions on the different presentation techniques etc. I thought about how her points apply to me and my work, bringing to my attention areas I can improve on. Below is my summer project...

The lesson was also a chance to talk with her about our trend book brief which is becoming more and more clear to me now. I’m quite excited about starting my research and producing my very own trend predictions although I'm a bit concerned that the time schedule seems a wee bit of a squeeze eeek.

Computer Suite with Jamie.

It was out first lesson back with Jamie today in the computer suite. I was actually quite looking forward to getting back on the computers and reminding myself of the different programs etc – specially considering our brief is quite digitally based and means we will need to be pretty computer savvy!

The lesson was with both Sarah and Jamie who explained our brief in further detail as well as what previous students had struggled most with in projects similar to ours. This was a very helpful and beneficial excerise as it allowed us to identify the areas we need to map extra attention to.

Sarah also showed us work by previous students from the unit we will start after christmas. Even though this didn’t directly link to the project for this term it was helpful and a good chance to see the kind of work a promoter produces.

First Day as A Promoter!

First day back at uni as a 2nd year! It’s felt like a seriously long time since we finished for the summer so

a bit strange to be back on campus but I'm sure I'll soon get back into the swing of things!

After a few minutes spent welcoming us back and introducing the new lecturer, Anya, we were given our first brief for the term! A Trendbook! We have to produce a fashion trendbook including three trends - Ethical, Ethnic and Street with a resesrch book to support it.

I'm quite excited about the brief and I can imagine it's something I will enjoy producing although I've never produced anything like a trend book before so I think they'll be a lot to learn along the way in the way of fashion forecasting and researching and editing skills.
